Music Scholars for Palestine

We are a coalition of researchers and educators of music and sound from around the world in support of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).

We’re voting!

The 2026 SEM (Society for Ethnomusicology) general election ballot will include two key items open to general membership votes: (1) a new constitutional amendment (Article XV) that would establish a referendum process in the Society and (2) the most up-to-date version of MS4P’s resolution in support of PACBI. If these two items pass, SEM will join numerous other U.S.-based academic associations that have made formal commitments in solidarity with Palestinian society to boycott and divest from entities that enable apartheid and crimes against humanity. Moreover, the newly instituted referendum process will provide SEM members with a formal, democratic vehicle through which other crucial resolutions may be adopted in SEM into the future. See our “SEM Campaign” for more details!
