In July 2025, the SEM (Society for Ethnomusicology) Council voted overwhelmingly in favor of bringing an SEM bylaws amendment in support of PACBI to an SEM general membership vote in 2026. Since then, MS4P (Music Scholars for Palestine) and SEM leadership have coordinated a modified plan forward, in which the general membership will be voting on a bylaws amendment (Article XV) that establishes democratic processes for passing referenda in SEM. If this bylaws amendment vote passes in Summer 2026, MS4P will be able to put a referendum in support of PACBI to an SEM general membership vote soon thereafter. See “Our Campaign” for more details!
